Atom Reps Capture Title in West Grey
The Your Neighbourhood Credit Union (YNCU) Meteor Atom Reps went undefeated to capture the championship in the one-day West Grey Tournament in Ayton on January 7th, downing league rival Kincardine Kinucks 4-3 in the final.

Ryan Hubbard opened the scoring midway through the first period, assisted by Braden Hoegy.  Wade Campbell would score unassisted early in the second period, but Kincardine would score minutes later to cut the lead to one.  Jack Miller scored an unassisted shorthanded goal later in the second period to extend the lead to 3-1 but Kincardine would get another one back early in the third.  At the midway point of the final period, Hoegy finished off a smooth end-to-end rush to build a 4-2 lead.
With the goalie pulled for an extra attacker, Kincardine would score with 20 seconds remaining to bring the score to 4-3, but goaltender Joel Meinen stood tall and turned away the heavy pressure to preserve the win.  Meinen was named Player Of The Game for the champions.
The Meteors faced the Bruce Peninsula Stars to open the tournament on Sunday morning, kicking the offense into high gear with a 7-2 win.  Kellen Russwurm opened the scoring early in the first with a hard shot from the blue line into the top corner.  Mitchell would go up 2-0 at the halfway point in the period as Bryce Otten would bang in a rebound, assisted by Campbell and Ethan Jarmuth.
Hubbard would then score a natural hat trick, starting by knocking in a loose puck in the crease and adding his second a minute later finishing off a 2-on-1 on a pretty pass from Miller.  Ryan Klumper would add two insurance goals in the third, including one set up on a picture perfect pass by Otten from the corner.
A tough test would await the locals in their semi-final game vs the Essa Eagles.  With Russwurm serving a hooking penalty, Jarmuth would outrace the Eagles defenders to a dumped puck deep in the offensive zone and feed a trailing Campbell who would send a shot on net, with Jarmuth circling around to bang in the rebound shorthanded.  Essa would tie the game less than a minute later, and the teams would play scoreless hockey for the next two periods.  Meinen made several key saves in this game as well, including stopping a penalty shot.  After five minutes of overtime didn't settle things, the game went to a shootout.  Russwurm and Jarmuth would both score, and Mitchell would earn a berth in the finals as Meinen would deny all Essa shooters.
