Otten Shootout Hero As Atom Reps Capture Championship in Bill Carnochan Memorial in Seaforth
Bryce Otten scored in the eighth round of the shootout vs Goderich to clinch the championship for the YNCU Meteor Atom Reps in the Bill Carnochan Memorial Tournament held October 27-28th in Seaforth.

This was an exciting game from start to finish, truly a pleasure for the fans to watch two balanced teams compete hard.  Mitchell opened the scoring in the first period with time winding down, on a goal by Carter O'Brien assisted by Jack Miller.  Goderich would tie it up midway through the second period.  The teams would battle through a scoreless third, leaving the game tied 1-1 at the end of regulation, and head for a five minute overtime.  Not solving anything in that frame, the teams went to a shootout to decide the tournament winner, setting the stage for Otten's heroics in the eighth round.
The Meteors opened tournament play on Friday night against the host Seaforth Stars, with a strong offensive showing leading to an 8-0 win.  Jack Miller (1G, 2A) and Ryan Hubbard (2G, 1A) paced the attack with three-point games, and Ryan Klumper also scored two goals.  Single scores were added by Wade Campbell, Jack Miller, Ethan Jarmuth, and Charlie Geiger.  Otten, Miller and Jack Van Loon each led with two assists, and single helpers were recorded by Hubbard, Miller, Campbell, O'Brien, Kellen Russwurm, and Colby Ryan.  Joel Meinen earned the shutout in net.
Game two saw the Meteors square off against the rival Listowel Cyclones, who had beaten them 1-0 earlier in the week in league play.  Mitchell had an early chance two minutes in, but Charlie Geiger was robbed all alone in front on a fantastic save by the Listowel goalie.  An odd-man rush led by defenseman Ryan drew a hooking penalty to Listowel, but the Meteor power play could not convert.  After a scoreless first, Listowel struck first early in the second scoring on a 3-on-1.  Mitchell would even things up as a tripping penalty to Van Loon expired, and Braden Hoegy sent Klumper in all alone coming off the bench for his third goal in two games.  O'Brien would add what would prove to be the game-winner on a power play goal late in the second.  Mitchell would add four more insurance goals in the third period, including a hat trick by Hubbard, to end in a 6-1 win and secure a trip to the final.  Klumper would add his second of the game to round out the scoring.
A skills competition was held at noon on Saturday for all participants.  Captain Russwurm won the shootout contest, scoring all four times that he shot, and goaltender Meinen won the best goaltender award.
Congrats to all the boys and coaches on their first tournament win of the year!
