U11 LL Meteors Capture WOAA White Division Championship
Hey Mitchell!! We have some hometown WOAA white division gold champions!! On March 24/24, our Mitchell Legion Branch 128 U11 LL Mitchell Meteors took home the win against the Walkerton Capitals in a one game final.

Within the first minute of play, Mitchell took a hooking penalty. Walkerton came out strong, quickly capitalizing on their first power play, scoring at just 1 min, 8 seconds into the game. The Walkerton bleachers were full of roaring support for their hometown fans. Walkerton Capitals appeared hungrier than the Mitchell Meteors, setting the tone with their second goal at 1:53 left in the first period.
At the midpoint of the second period, Capitals take their first penalty, offering Mitchell the chance to come alive. On the power play, Carter Poppe finds a home for the puck, putting Mitchell on the scoreboard. Mitchell fans go wild! Not long after, Dace Doell stick handles around 2 defensemen, and sinks it, tying the game up at 2-2. Maybe the unwavering support, bells, hollers and megaphone noise from their hometown fans helped.
Heading into the third, Mitchell is looking strong and feeling good! Early in the period, Mitchell takes our first lead in the game, when Jack Krempien puts it over the goalie and into the net! Mitchell is now gaining more puck control. Next, Dace Doell scores his second goal, giving Mitchell a 2 goal lead. But, this goal was quickly answered by the Capitals scoring their third goal, narrowing the gap to a now 4-3 game. The fans are kept on the edge of their seats. Then Meteors defenseman shoots from the blue line, the Capitals goalie offers a rebound at 3:33 for Noah Cochrane to tap in what proves to be the last goal of the game settling the final score at 5-3. What a game!!!
Our Mitchell Meteors have exceeded even their own expectations for this season. Coming from an exhibition play record of winning only 4 of 20 games played, they were true underdogs. Each and every one of these hockey players better hold their heads high because it took each player’s skill set to take home this win. The team’s effort and growth is remarkable. Finishing the season with a 9 game undefeated playoff record and now a WOAA Championship. Mitchell U11 LL team— You have made your hometown very proud!
