Provincials Honeymoon locked in for U13 Meteor girls.
Coming off a home tournament victory, The Ace Garden Centre continued
to battle hard for their chance to represent Mitchell Minor Hockey at The
Provincial Championship Tournament.
Facing St.Marys was a nice transition from tournament play,
as they had a healthy 8-0 win over the Rock. Goals came from Sophia VanNes (2)
Reina Nevin, Callie VanLoon, Kinslee Horan, Martyna Hartwig, Ella Sills and
Bree Carnahan. Assists went to Hartwig, Phoebe Wood, Leah and Ella Sills. Ally
VanBakel earning a shutout.
The Central Perth game was the one to watch, as the
Predators had to win to stay alive. Both teams battled hard as neither wanted the
loss. The Predators were first on the board in the second period to take the
lead. The Meteors did not give up as both teams continued to battle to the end.
With a couple minutes remaining, Danica Voros popped one past the Predators
goalie to tie the game at 1-1. The time wound down with pressure to the final
seconds, ending the game in a 1-1 tie. It was the biggest celebrated tie the
fans had seen, which all but put the Predators out of the running. VanBakel gave
it her all to only allow one goal throughout the game, which is a great
accomplishment against a strong team like the Predators.
The Stratford game was another must-not-lose situation to
continue to Provincials. It was evident early on that The Meteors would come
out ahead. Goals for the game came from Horan (2), Wood (2), Nevin and Elena
Schoonderwoerd. Assists awarded to Chantelle Mergyl, Nevin and Horan in the 6-0
Victory. Ally VanBakel recorded yet another shutout to her collection
throughout the season. The Meteors undefeated first place qualifying finish was
capped with an impressive 5-0-1 record to send the girls off to their Provincials Honeymoon on Toronto. Good luck Girls.
