Atom AE's Drop Playoff Opener in Overtime
The Thompsons Atom AE Meteors hosted the BCH Ice Dogs in AE Playdowns Wednesday night in Mitchell and the visitors would come away with an exciting 2-1 victory in overtime.
The first period would see the Ice Dogs score with under a minute to go to take lead going into the second period. The middle period would have good scoring chances at both ends of the rink but both the BCH netminder and Mitchell's goalie Joel Meinen would turn aside all shots.
The third period would continue with exciting end-to-end action but the score would remain 1-0 until Meteor defenceman Colby Ryan fired a high wrist from along the boards with 3:40 remaining to beat the BCH goalie high over the glove to tie the game. Assists would be awarded to Ethan Meinen and Carter O'Brien.
The two teams would head to overtime where the visitors would end the tight game half way through the sudden death period. Game 2 in the series will take place Thursday night in Clinton.
