Zurich Defeats Atom AE's in Hawks Cup Finals
The Thompsons Atom AE Meteors competed in the Hawks Cup final Sunday afternoon at the Mitchell Arena against the Zurich Thunder.
The first period would see many chances at both ends of the rink, with Meteors goalie Joel Meinen helping to keep the game scoreless. With two minutes left in the second period, Zurich would be the first team to score as they would beat Meinen on an end-to-end rush. However, Mitchell would bounce right back one minute later as Jack Miller would flip one over the fallen Thunder goalie with an assist from Carter O'Brien.
With the game tied 1-1, the home side would take the lead three minutes into the final period as Ryan Hubbard would hit the back of the net on a goal mouth scramble. Assists on that goal went to Jaxen Hartwig and Miller.
The visitors would then get the tying goal with just over two minutes remaining and would eventually tally the winning goal with twenty-seven seconds remaining in the contest.
