Sunday October 27th the Valumart tyke 2 team started a series of exhibition games and are off to a flying start to a promising year. Up first we had a game against the Mitchell tyke 1 team in Mitchell and it didn't take long for the lads to start tallying up goals as Jacob Dietrich got the first goal of the season and 14 seconds later Jack Bree added his first of two, not long after that Ryan Hubbard got his first of three on the night before the tyke 1 team finally got one by our goalie Joel Meinen, Jack Miller also felt the need to light the lamp in the first to close the opening period with a 6-1 lead. The Boys continued to bulge the twine in the second as Eric Price got his first before the tyke 1 team was able to get two more passed Meinen and then Dietrich added his second to close the second period 9-2. The third period was back and forth and filled with lots of chances but continued to be scoreless and the game ended in a 9-2 victory. The following Saturday the team had a full schedule as they played Saturday morning houseleague and then travelled over to Exeter to take on a South Huron team at 12:00 and then back in Mitchell to host Lucan at 3:40. Over in Exeter Price got the scoring going in the opening shift, as we kept the pressure on the host team Meinen was able to get one by the Exeter goalie 10 minutes later just seconds before Ryan (Stamkos) Hubbard notched his first of another hat trick which was his second trick in as many game. Shortly after that Exeter was able to finally get one passed netminder Carson (Hasek) Harmer who had stopped several breakaways by coming out and taking down the angle which surprised the home team. Once again steady defencemen Jack Bree and Jack Miller were both able to go coast to coast and tuck the biscuit passed the South Huron goalie, which we were able to cruise to a 7-2 victory and bring the season to a 2-0 record. After a quick stop by McDonalds for some lunch and a special guest appearance by Ronald McDonald we were on our way back to the home barn. This one was a slow start but late in the first period Harmer got the home team on the board assisted by Hubbard then the boys found their second wind and got the scoring going again, as Brees scored 10 seconds into the second from Ben Medhurst and Harmer and 35 seconds later Payton Wood scored from Medhurst before Harmer, Medhurst, and Hubbard all scored again Hubbard getting a pair to close the second period with a 7-0 lead. In the third both Dietrich and Miller added goals and assist coming from Wood, Colby Ryan and Darius Ladd to bring the final score to 9-0 as Bradley Dearing was able to get the shutout after being called on to make a few saves as it was a quiet night for the Mitchell goalie. So with three games under their belts everyone seems to be firing on all cylinders and are developing very well and we look forward to the season ahead, great games boys!
