Meteors Trump the Inferno
The Paul Van Gerwen U18 Girls hockey team added another win to their impressive tally Tuesday night on home ice.
The West Oxford Inferno came to town ready to play some aggressive hockey and the U18 Meteors struck back.
The first period of the game demonstrated just how evenly matched these two teams are. The Mitchell Meteors had the speed of the offense and the strength of the defense to combat the West Oxford Inferno's on-point passing, resulting in the first period ended with nothing on the scoreboard.
It was not until halfway through the second period that the Meteors found their fire. West Oxford scored with a nice shot high in the net and Kaylyn answered back with her second goal of the year to keep the playing field even and the score tied 1-1 going into the third period.
After some hard shots on net by Grace, skillfully aligned shots by Josie and some great positioning and rebound shots by Brooklyn F. Mitchell still could not find the back of the net. It took Andrea to skate through players down the ice, dodging players with a borrowed stick to shoot allowing Brooklyn B to rebound score and add a second marker on the scoresheet.
West Oxford pulled out all the stops, even their goalie to get one more, but were unsuccessful. The game ended with the win going to Mitchell!
