Busy 5 game weekend for Ace Garden Centre U13 girls

During the Festival cup tournament in Stratford over the weekend, the U13 Meteor Girls represented their hometown well. They faced some tough competition and played four tournament games over two days. With an overall 1 win and 3 loss record.

The first and lone goal of Game one vs. South Huron came from Lucy Mahon in the 6-1 loss.

Game 2 vs St. Marys, was a 2-1 win to keep their tournament hopes alive. Goals came from Phoebe Wood and Mahon.

Game 3 against B.A.D Blazers, was a very close match that could have went either way. Sophia VanNes opened the scoring of the game on a rebound shot from Martyna Hartwig. The Blazers responded with 2 goals to take over the lead, beating the Meteors 2-1.

Game 4 Vs. London Devilettes was a hard-fought battle for the Meteors. London had a two-goal lead heading into the second period. Mahon broke free and was able to grab her own rebound to keep the London team within a goal. Leah Sills had a couple great opportunities in the second, came up just short. London was able to slip another goal in before ending the period. Three more goals went on the board for London to finish off the 6-1 victory over the Meteors, ending their shot at progressing to Sunday. Ally Vanbakel made many difficult saves throughout the game, to keep the Devilettes at 6.

A bit of teambuilding afterwards with some bowling and team dinner for kids and adults. High score on the lanes came from Kingpin Denny Horan, with Tara Sills winning the Best Sport award. Kudos to the kids for winning the best behaved hockey team at a team dinner award. (Commented on by the wait staff).

Back to Milverton Sunday night to take on the undefeated Central Perth Predators in regular season play.

The score was tied at 0 heading into the second period. The Meteors were first to get on the board from a faceoff win by Danica Voros, straight back to Elena Hoeggar, who rifled a shot on net, and was the last to realize it went in. Voros grabbed a goal of her own as well to take a decent 2-0 lead. The predators persisted and left the Meteors with only a one goal lead heading into the third period. Voros grabbed another goal, assisted by Hoeggar to increase their lead once again. The predators kept the pressure on and scored one final to mark the Meteors win 3-2. The defensive squad of Hoeggar, Kinslee Horan, Ella Sills, and Charlee Weesjes did very well at holding off the predators. Vanbakel stopped many key shots in the game and some great overall teamwork took place in handing the Predators their first regular season loss.
