Busy travel weekend to Tillsonburg and Woodstock
over the weekend
Ace Garden Centre U13 Meteor Girls took a win over Tillsonburg on Saturday.
Lucy Mahon opened the scoring for the Meteors in the first period with a nice wraparound goal. There was no scoring in the second period as both teams battled hard into the third. Kinslee Horan marked the second meteor goal, skating in past the defense. With the Tillsonburg goalie on the bench, the Meteors had some good chances to pot the empty netter. Leah Sills had the right shot to make it into the empty net with Callie VanLoon getting the assist in the 3-1 victory.
Sundays Game in Woodstock proved to be a bit more challenging, but well matched. Woodstock opened up the scoring in the first period, and in similar fashion, to Saturdays game, no scoring took place in the second period. Many good chances by both teams but netminder Allie VanBakel kept the door closed. Elena Hoeggar, scored the tying goal for the Meteors in the third period After ringing the post on her first end-to-end rush, she made no mistake finding the net on her second rush of the game. The wildcats responded shortly after with a goal to once again take the lead. Lots of pressure in the final minute of play with VanBakel on the bench and the extra attacker on the ice, but time ran out for the Meteors in the 2-1 loss.
