U9 Gold Bill Batten Memorial Tournament Finalists!
This weekend the McKee Concrete U9 Gold Mitchell Meteors played in the Bill Batten Memorial tournament.

On Friday the boys met the Lucan Irish and took early control of the game leading 2-0 with goals by Verberne and Vallance. Vallance continued his hot streak netting three more goals which were assisted by Kelly, Verberne and Ryan. Roosendaal and Pennings added to the scoreboard making it a 7-1 win for the Meteors. It was a great start to the tournament and the game MVP went to Vallance!

The second game on Friday took on the Mid Huron Huskies who came out strong and won the game 9-1. Vallance, assisted by Hachler had the lone goal for Mitchell and the game MVP went to Elligsen!

By Saturday the Meteors TURNED IT ON with a very exciting game against the Delhi Rockets. Both teams played hard and Mitchell showed a lot of heart with some quick skating and some outstanding defense. Delhi led 1-0 at the end of the first period but Mitchell quickly answered with a goal by Roosendaal (assisted by Pennings). In the third, Mitchell sealed the game with goals by Vallance, Pennings and Coyne for a 4-1 win. The game MVP went to Coyne and they were on to the semi finals!

In the semi final Sunday morning game, the team met the Delhi Rockets for the second time. After the first period the game was 0-0. In the second, Pennings netted the first goal which was answered by Delhi. Ryan followed up with an awesome goal from the blue line ending the period 2-1 for Mitchell. Delhi netted their second in the third taking it to OT. It was a nail biter of a game until the very end when Vallance scored the winning goal. Game MVP went to Pennings and they were headed to the Finals!

In the Final they met the Mid Huron Huskies once more. They worked well as a team and put the pressure on! By the end of the first the score was 0-0. By the end of the second the Huskies led with two goals but the defensive line up of Verberne, Ryan, Furtney and Elligsen and some big saves by Walt kept them in the game. In the third the Huskies netted their third goal but Mitchell answered on the power play with a goal by Vallance. The team MVPs were Walt and Furtney!

Congratulations to the U9 Gold team who played so well and were on fire this weekend. A big thank you to the coaches, way to go boys!
