U15 Meteor Girls To Face Stratford in League Finals
The Lockhart Funeral Home U15 Meteor Girls wrapped up their WOGHL Playoff round robin series on March 20th with a solid 5-2 home ice victory over the Stratford Aces, who suffered their first loss of the round but still hung onto first place. Mitchell finished second and will play Stratford in a best two out of three final series for the WOGHL U15 'C' Championship beginning March 26th in Stratford.
Stratford drew first blood, knocking in a loose puck in the crease early in the opening period. Ainsley Berendsen would tie the game late in the first, from Josie Walker and Kora Smith. The Meteors would then open things up, scoring three unanswered goals in the second period from Jade Huygen, Walker, and Brooklynn French. The Aces would close the gap to 4-2 midway through the final period, before Berendsen would score her second of the game from Walker to add insurance. Additional assists were also recorded by Haileigh Templeman, Addy Wolfe, and Huygen.
Rachel Haefling led the offense in the game prior, as the Meteors travelled to Komoka on March 12th, returning home with a 4-0 victory over the Ilderton Jets. Walker and Huygen would add the other Mitchell markers, and Alissa Insley the shutout in net. Boville, Berendsen, Huygen, Haefling, Smith, Walker, Alexis Gettler and Grace Laverty all chipped in with single helpers, providing full evidence of the consistently well-balanced Meteor attack.
