U11 Meteor Girls Post win in Second and Final Provincial Qualifier
The U11 Ace Country Garden Meteors hit the ice in their second of two provincial qualifiers.

They needed a healthy win to keep their hopes alive after an earlier tie against the Mustangs.

After a pre-game team hairstyling by Dani, Cori and Brooklyn (and maybe Randy?), the girls hit the ice in full force.

There was only one goal scored in the first period by the Meteors’ Leah Sills. The second period saw more action with two more goals. One blister shot by a surprised Charlee Weesjes from the blueline made it past the goalie. The other goal came from Caley Michels, assisted by Kinslee Horan. The Heat had managed to sneak out of their end with the puck, but Casey Crowley was hot on her heels backchecking and foiled what had been the Heats best chance to get on the board so far.

The third period really took off for the Meteors with four goals recorded. Martyna Hartwig opened up the third period scoring with assists going to Emma Upshall and Amelia Wolfkamp. Wolfkamp earned her second assist with a beauty pass from the corner to an eager Leah Sills who had no problem netting the puck. Of course, it wouldn’t be a proper game without a graceful end to end rush by Horan who wove her way through 4 Heat players to add another to the board. Last goal of the game was a large goalmouth scramble. Leah Sills was able to get a tap on the puck to tip it over the line, assisted by Hartwig. It was a great overall team effort.

It’s a waiting game now to see if The U11 Meteor girls will advance to Provincials, but Ally VanBakels shutout, and the Meteors 7-0 win is a high bar to have set for the Mustangs to beat when they play the Heat.
