On Saturday, the U11 Ace Hardware Meteor Girls travelled to
Blyth to play Huron Heat.
Danica Voros took a pass from Charlee Weesjees and opened the scoring by carrying the puck through the Heat defence. Leah Sills poked in an insurance goal from a Voros shot. The Heat responded with a goal of their own to end the first period.
The rest of the game was a full-on Meteor shower with the girls adding 6 more goals to close out the game. Sophia VanNes banked one off the back of the Heat goalie on a wrap-around, Kinslee Horan put the jets on with a smooth breakaway, having partner Emma Upshall close by to poke in the rebound. VanNes grabbed her second of the game off a rebound from Martyna Hartwig. A Meteors face off win found its way to Sills, who broke out to score her second of the game.
Upshall added the last two goals of the game (one assisted by Dani Vosper) to give herself a hat trick, earning the nickname “hot-hands” assigned by Eddie. Ally VanBakel made some key saves throughout the game to take the 8-1 victory over the Huron Heat.
Sundays game was against the South Huron Sabres in Stephen Township Arena.
