Glad To Be Back On The Ice!
The McLaughlin Auto Wholesale U13 AE Meteors were happy to be back playing hockey again competing in the annual St. Marys Rock tournament February 5-6.
Mitchell played game 1 in Embro on Friday morning vs the tournament hosts St. Marys Rock. The Meteors would open the scoring in the game in the 1st period when Jack Crowley found the back of the net with the assist coming from Reegan Vessie. In the second Mitchell held the momentum with a goal from Tyler Burtenshaw, assisted by Vessie and Lucas Bree. Mitchell went on to win the game 5 to 1 with third period goals from Wesley Berendsen, Sean Gibbings and Burtenshaw, helpers came from Burtenshaw, Cole Templeman and Vessie. The coaches were pleased with the start and noted the well balanced attack.
The Meteors couldn't tame the Woolwich Wildcats in game 2 and fell 7 to 1. Our lone goal coming from Colby Faust and assisted by Burtenshaw.
On Saturday morning the Meteors faced off against the Dragons of Dorchester but couldn't get the offense going losing a close game 2 to 0. Carter Harris kept the Meteors close making several key saves throughout the game.
In the quarter finals against the Collingwood Jr Blues Mitchell played hard right to the end but couldn't get passed the Jr Blues. Cole Templeman wasn't having any part of a Collingwood shut out scoring late in the 3rd period with assists coming from Connor Wolfe and Berendsen.
All in all the effort was strong all weekend for the Meteors who will now start their playoff journey in Paisley on Wednesday night (Feb 9) against the AEMHA Ice Dogs. Good luck Meteors!
