65th Annual Peewee Tournament
Our McLaughlin Auto Wholesale U13 AE team represented Mitchell with hard work and determination over the weekend.

The boys put together an action packed weekend for all and would like to thank our parents and extensive loyal fan base for driving and supporting them throughout the weekend.

Our first game was on Friday morning against the Strathroy Jr. Rockets and what a way to start the tournament! This back and forth game would see Mitchell trailing 1 - 0 after the first and part of the 2nd period until Wes Berendsen tied it up at the 6:20 mark, the Jr. Rockets would take the lead back at 1:48, but in the dying seconds Sean Gibbings tied it up again with nice setup from behind the net by Tyler Burtenshaw. Strathroy would strike first in the 3rd to take the lead back, but not giving up easily the Meteors kept grinding and tied it once again at 7:25 with Berendsen scoring his second of the game. The Meteors would finally go ahead at 3:10 when Cole Templeman scored the game winner with helpers from Berendsen and Burtenshaw. A total team effort kept the Meteors in the game with a strong effort from all players at both ends of the ice for the 4 - 3 win.

Our second game on Saturday morning was against the Listowel Cyclones. Mitchell took command early and never looked back with Carter Harris getting the shut-out for a 4 - 0 victory. Goals in the 1st period from Tyler Burtenshaw (2) and an assist from Jack Crowley. More insurance in the 2nd period came at 0:22 and 0:07 from Berendsen and Colby Faust respectively with helpers from Lucas Bree and Burtenshaw.

Our third and final pool play game was on Saturday evening against the Ilderton Jets. With bedtimes looming the Meteors couldn't close out the hardworking Jets and skated to a 1 - 1 tie. With scoreless 1st and 2nd periods call-up Carter McAsh would finally give Mitchell a 1 - 0 lead with nifty goal off the back of the goalie. Ilderton kept pressing and would finally tie the game at 3:58, neither team could capitalize after that. The tie was still enough to put the Meteors at the top of their pool and play in the semi-finals on Sunday morning against the East Lampton Eagles. The Eagles would prove to be the better team that day and moved on to the finals.

Again, the Meteors represented Mitchell very well and were proud participants in the 65th annual. Good luck this week in our regional Silverstick tournament. We hope to see everyone there on Friday when the Meteors play their first game against the Petrolia Oilers at 2:30pm at the Hensall arena....I know I'll be calling in sick to the boss!
