Crawford hat trick rallies U11s
The Walkom's Valumart U11s played in the Bill Batten Memorial tournament in Exeter on the weekend.
Friday was an early start vs. Petrolia. The U11s were led to victory by Aiden Crawford and the three goals that he cranked into the net. Hat trick! Hayden DeJong also scored. Mitchell won 4-2.
Later in the day on Friday the U11s took on Norwich. Lincoln Laverty scored twice in the second period; once off an assist by Jackson Schoonderwoerd and once off a rebound from Tyler Verberne's breakaway. Weston Bannon's defensive hustle proved valuable many times throughout the game and squashed Norwich's opportunities. Tyler Verberne added one with 46 seconds left on the clock and an empty net. Another win for Mitchell: 3-1.
The U11s were scheduled to play on Saturday but southwestern Ontario winter had other plans. The game was cancelled and called a tie.
This brought the boys to the semi-finals vs. Ingersoll on Sunday. Parker Wolfe scored one from the point, but Mitchell came up short in a 4-1 loss.
