U13 Girls Suffer Winless Weekend
The Mitchell Meteor U13 Girls competed in a pair of games this past weekend, first falling 6-1 at home to South Huron on Dec 18th. Ainsley Berendsen was the lone goal scorer for the Meteors.
Next up was a road trip to Hensall on Dec 20th to face the Huron Heat. Despite being heavily outshot, starting goaltender Alyssa Insley kept the Meteors in the game for the first half. After making the initial save, a rebound landed right on a Huron Heat stick to deposit it in the top corner over a sprawling Insley. Only down 1-0 at the halfway point, Leah Kelly relieved Insley in net and continued the strong play between the pipes, stopping two penalty shots in the process. Mitchell had some glorious chances as Zoey Michel was stopped cold on a breakaway, and Ashley McLeod rang a loud shot off the post that would have tied the game.
The Heat would add an empty netter in the final couple minutes of play for the 2-0 shutout win.
