The Larry Hudson Mitchell Midget Rep hosted the forth place Walkerton Capitals on Wednesday evening in Monkton. Although this would be the first time the Rep's would play the Capitals in regular season, we did meet them at the Wingham Silverstick Qualifiers, where the results were less than stellar due to a multitude of factors….officiating being at the top of the list. Tonight, absolutely no complaints with the reffing and in fact, thought it was very well done, letting the boys play while keeping the shenanigans in check.
Compared to our last encounter with the Capitals, the first period was surprising clean and only saw a few penalties. Both goalies were tested, leaving the score the same as the game started at the end of the first. The second period was much like the first, with the exception of the score board, with the Capitals short handed, Mitchell struck first. With just over a minute left play in our adversaries end, the puck was sent to the net, hitting the cross bar, Brayden Vosper then grabbed it, sent it over to Conner MacLean, who then passed it to Logan Harmer. Harmer did what he knows best, snapped the goal tenders stalemate and put Mitchell in the lead with one.
The third period saw testosterone and teenage boys playing hockey again and candidly was what was expected as a continuation from where our last game ended. Numerous penalties saw both teams at disadvantages, but only one would prevail and at 5:41 with both teams even, Josh Eidt added the insurance with Vosper and Kyle Richardson registering the assists. The score would finish at 2-0, retaining Mitchell’s third place in the league standings and adding two more points to their dossier.
Congratulations to Ryan Bell, whom with help from his teammates again, earned himself another shut out. The Larry Hudson Mitchell Reps will be hosting the Mt Forest Rams next Wednesday night in Monkton @9pm. This will be something….
