Game 2 Regional Silverstick
This week, the Larry Hudson Mitchell Midget Rep team are in Wingham playing in the Wingham Regional Silverstick Qualifier. The Reps are trying to earn the right to represent Mitchell in the International Silverstick Tournament, but there is some tough competition in their way. The Midget Reps will play three games in all. Their first game was Sunday morning against the league leaders, the Listowel Cyclones where the boys lost a heart breaker… 1-0 .

With the second full roster of the year, the Midget Reps set foot on the ice in Wingham on Thursday evening at 9 pm for their second game of the event against the the Tavistock Titans. The Reps do not play the Titans during regular season so both teams would see each other for the first time this evening. "Titans" was a very fitting name to some of the Tavistock boys… they were enormous.

The first period was back and forth action between David and Goliath, with each team feeling each other out. Both teams getting shots on net and both teams testosterone rising as the goalies continually denied the opportunities at both ends of the ice. Finally with just 0.6 seconds on the clock, that “fellow" called the first penalty and Mitchell would be on the power play to start the second.

The Reps, loving to do things the hard way, decided not to score on the power play but rather take a few penalties themselves later in the second in order to keep Mitchell's net minder Ryan Bell warmed up for the third, where hopefully this game would receive its first goal.

After the flood and speculating some encouraging words in the dressing room, the boys came out with a different outlook on the game of hockey and at 11:48 Seth Huygen made no mistake and  put the puck in the net. With assists going to both Logan Harmer and Jarrett Vink, the first goal was on the board. With that” fellow" making some more judgement calls that put both teams on the defensive and time running down in the third, the Titans pulled their goalie at 0.59 seconds to have the extra man on the ice. Unfortunately for them, they had not planned on the combination of Ryan Bell and  Declan Catalan out smarting the “Titan's Six” by getting the puck to Hammer on a break away, burying it into the open net with just 5.4 seconds remaining, ending the game with Bell once again getting the shutout and his first assist. The Meteors win 2-0.

Next game for the Larry Hudson Mitchell Midget Rep team in the Wingham Silverstick Regional Qualifiers will be this Saturday morning bright and early in Blyth at 8am.
