Peewee girls split a pair of games over the weekend.
Goaltenders Allison Vogels and Kora Smith were stellar on the weekend as the girls defeated the Huron Heat but fell to Lucan in two close games.

On Friday night the girls traveled to Seaforth to take on the Huron Heat who were in need of a win to help their playoff chances and showed the urgency in their play.  The Heat came out with speed and grit and pressed our girls with strong fore checking, but the combined goaltending of Smith and Vogels turned aside everything  helping Mitchell come home with a 2-0 win.  Andrea Kelly opened the scoring with 1:18 left in the first when she drove home a rebound off of a shot from Hayden Uniac.  Aubrey Vosper had a particularly gritty and in-your-face style of game and was rewarded by scoring with .2 seconds left in the game with an assist going to Brooklynn French.
On Sunday the Meteors hosted Lucan who were looking to close ground on us for first in the division.  The two teams exchanged chances but the goaltending answered the bell. Lucan opened the scoring at 9:06 of the second period and this looked like it may be the final score until Jade Huygen ripped home a slap shot with 3:38 left in the third to even the score at 1-1.  Lucan came back hard and scored a minute later to regain the lead.  With our goalie pulled, the girls created some good scoring chances but some great saves from the opposing goaltender helped Lucan hold on for the 2-1 win.
