Meteors Draw First Blood In Highway 23 Series
The annual Highway 23 Series began on October 8th, with the Hoegy's Farm Supply Meteor Peewee Reps traveling north to Listowel to face the Cyclones. Solid goaltending and a strong team effort led to a 4-1 win for Mitchell.
The well-balanced Mitchell attack had scoring every period, as Jack Miller got the locals on the board first from Bryce Dixon. Dixon would score his own goal midway through the second, with assists to Miller and Charlie Geiger.
Early in the third period, Ethan Jarmuth would head for the net on defenseman Kellen Russwurm's rush, banging in a rebound to take a 3-0 lead.
Listowel would ruin goaltender Joel Meinen's shutout bid with 1:33 remaining in the game on a turnover that led to a breakaway, but Mitchell would get one more insurance goal in the final minute as Bryce Otten knocked in a rebound in front of the net from Nick Wagner.
