Silver Stick Tournament
Thompsons Mitchell Atom AE Meteors made it to the semi-finals in their Regional Silver Stick tournament hosted by South Huron.

Game 1 was on Friday morning vs the Lambeth Lancers and saw the Meteors get on the board first with a goal from defenseman Tyler Burtenshaw who skated through the Lancers d-line and ripped a shot past the goalie. The second period would be a different story as Lambeth would score 3 unanswered goals and take a commanding 3 - 1 lead into the third. Mitchell wasn't done yet though as Ray Wolfe made a great pass to Carter McAsh to cut the lead to 3 - 2 with 8mins to play. Mitchell's goalie Sebastian Voros made several key saves to keep the Meteors close, but with time ticking away Mitchell pulled their goal for the extra attacker but couldn't get the equalizer (.....does that play ever work?......spoiler alert.....stay tuned for game 4 details!) and the Lancers made it a 4 - 2 final, putting away an empty netter.

In Game 2 on Friday evening the Meteors would get a solid 3 - 0 win vs the Ilderton Jets. Bryson Eickmeyer earned the shutout, with help from his strong defensemen, Lucas Bree, Lukas Dejong, Sean Gibbings, Ben Hubbard and Tyler Burtenshaw. 1st goal came from Max Brohagen, assist from Zoey Michel, 2nd goal from Caleb Pennings, assist from Cole Templeman and Gibbings and 3rd goal from Burtenshaw.

The Meteors' only game on Saturday was against the Mooretown Sparks. The Meteors again played as a well oiled machine taking the spark out of the Sparks with a 7 - 0 drubbing. This time it was Sebastian Voros' turn to earn the shut out. Goals came from Logan Montgomery (3), Tyler Burtenshaw (2), Carter McAsh and Ray Wolfe. Assists were plentiful; Ellie McArthur (2), Ray Wolfe (2), Ben Hubbard, Lucas Bree, Lukas Dejong and Reegan Vessie. With the win the Meteors' earned a place in the semi-finals on Sunday morning.

No morning cartoons for the Meteors on this Sunday....it was an early 8am start vs Pool A's #1 seed; the Mooretown LeBlanc. The LeBlanc's would strike first at 4:09 in the first period when 4 of their players crashed the net to knock in a rebound and make it a 1 - 0 game. Their lead was short lived as 13 seconds later Mitchell's Reegan Vessie would skate the puck up the side, scoring an unassisted goal with 3:56 remaining. The period would end with both teams having chances. More of the same fast pace in the second period but, at 5:06 remaining, Mooretown would break the tie and take a 2 - 1 lead. In the third period 'Birthday Boy!' Bryson Eickmeyer would turn away several tough shots from the LeBlanc's, he would finish the morning with 22 saves. But, with time ticking away again the Meteors were faced with pulling their goalie for the extra attacker....but this time....enter: Caleb Pennings....who would pick up the puck with 12 seconds remaining in Mitchell's zone and start skating through Mooretown players...6 seconds remaining....he finally enters the Mooretown zone (all in slow motion for the parents on hand watching)....3 seconds....(several parents, coaches, siblings, pets etc. yelling for him to shoot the puck!)....2 seconds....he takes a wrist shot and goes bar down to beat the Mooretown goalie and tie the game with only 1 second left on the board! To overtime we go! Per the tournament rules the Meteors  would play a 10min 3 on 3 sudden death OT period. With momentum on our side Mitchell pressed hard and had good chances to win it, but in the end Mooretown would score with 4:21 remaining in the extra period.

Another great tournament for the Meteors, the coaching staff was very proud of the determination and grit shown throughout and hopes to carry that on the remainder of the year. Good luck this week vs BCH and Kincardine.
