St Marys Rock Tournament
The Thompsons Mitchell Atom AE Meteors spent the October 18 to 20 weekend working out the kinks at the St. Marys Rock AE Tournament.

In the St. Marys Tournament last weekend (October 18 to 20) the Meteors drew the Dorchester Dragons for game 1 in a very close game where the Meteors came out on top with a narrow 2 - 1 victory. Both goals came in the 1st period with Ellie MacArthur striking first at the 9:21 mark unassisted and then at the 6:06 mark. Logan Montgomery found the back of the net set up by line mates Max Brodhagen and Zoey Michel. Dorchester scored a goal late in the 2nd and then goalie Bryson Eickmeyer made a huge save with just under 2 minutes remaining in the 3rd period, making sure his team stayed on top.

In game 2 vs the Ilderton Express Mitchell got things rolling in the 1st period when Reegan Vessie went on the rush to create a 2 on 1 opportunity with line mate Caleb Pennings, who found the back of the net at the 4:05 minute mark with a great pass from Vessie. Just 2 minutes later Zoey Michel stormed the net and muscled in a loose puck to make it 2 - 0. In the second Pennings was the lone name on the sheet scoring his second of the game. Mitchell would break things open in the 3rd scoring 3 more unanswered goals from Hubbard at 3:49, Carter McAsh (Ray Wolfe) at 3:04, and finally, once again the duo of Pennings and Vessie at 2:26 to make the final score 6 - 0. Goalie Sebastian Voros made a solid 16 saves in the battle to earn the shut-out!

In Game 3 vs the Woodstock Navy Jets the Meteors played a hard fought defensive battle with no scoring from either team for the 1st and 2nd periods. More strong defense in the 3rd period from Lucas Bree, Sean Gibbings, Ben Hubbard, Lukas DeJong and Tyler Burtenshaw kept Woodstock from getting any quality chances.  This then lead to Tyler Burtenshaw finding Max Brodhagen who rifled a shot on net through traffic and with a couple key deflections made it a 1 - 0 game at the 1:41 mark. Woodstock would finally get on the board with only 8 seconds left in the game to force the tie.

In semi-final action Mitchell would face the home town St. Marys Rock. Caleb Pennings assisted by Cole Templeman would open the scoring at 6:36 of the first period. Zoey Michel would keep the Meteors rolling scoring a goal while battling for a loose puck in front of the net with helpers from Max Brodhagen and Logan Montgomery. Mitchell goalie Sebastian Voros kept St. Marys off the board making several key saves in the period. In the second period Pennings would again show his speed and stick work charging in scoring an unassisted goal at the 6:11 mark to make it 3 - 0. A late penalty on Mitchel in the second period would see Voros rob St. Marys of multiple attempts. In the third, St. Marys would make it a 3 - 1 game when a bouncing rebound found one of their sticks, but 32 seconds later Ellie MacArthur would crush any hopes of a come back and ice the game with a helper from Ray Wolfe.

In the championship game Mitchell would again face a tough Dorchester Dragons team and in the end fell 4 - 1, with the lone Meteor goal coming from Ray Wolfe, assisted by Carter McAsh. This was a great tournament for the AE players and their many fans that came out to support them. The Coach staff was very impressed at the teams progression throughout the tournament, a great accomplishment for the team.
