The Midget LL team has had a great start to their season
with an impressive 5-0 run.
They started their season mid October with an exhibition
game vs. Listowel, followed by two league games against Arthur and Mt Forest
all at home, then another exhibition game in Goderich – which was a great action packed
game including a penalty shot followed by another league game back in our barn
last week vs. Blyth Brussels.
It is already evident that we have a very talented, hard working group of guys. Goals and assists have been spread amongst several different players and our defensive core have been strong with “rock solid” goal tending provided by Bradley Boville and Stevie Daum.
Our most action packed game so far this season was our second exhibition game in Goderich – an edge of your seat type of game. This game was filled with tons of penalties for both teams as tempers seemed to run high throughout the entire game. We would open the scoring just minutes into the game from Josh Duncan with assists going to Denzyl Finlayson and Cole Wilton and that would be all that we would get in the opening period. The second period was back and forth from end to end with Goderich scoring the equalizer 1-1 but minutes later Will Steinbach and Kase Schooderwoerd would set up Eric Dearing to net our second of the game to take the lead once again. Goderich would answer right back to tie the game again and it would remain tied 2-2 at the end of the second period. With a clean sheet of ice and the boys ready to battle in this period, Dominic Voros moved that puck towards the Goderich net minder and tucked that little black disk behind him to give us the 3-2 advantage. With time going off the clock and neither goalie allowing anything pass and each team continually having at least one player in the box, Goderich would once again square the game up 3-3. A face off from centre would see our players move the puck around the ice to the stick of Josh Duncan who rushed up the ice to be hauled down on his breakaway attempt to draw the Penalty Shot! As all players made their way to the bench to watch with excitement as Josh Duncan started his skate towards the Goderich goalie and with a few quick stick movements shot it pass for the go ahead goal – he shoots, he scores! The crowd roared and the good guys were up once again leading 4-3. Just seconds later, Tristan Beehler would score unassisted to increase our lead 5-3. The following minutes seem to take forever to tick off the clock but the buzzer would finally sound and the Meteors had won. Great game boys!
The boys will now continue with league games this week and next before representing Mitchell in the Regional Silver Stick Midget LL tournament in Exeter the weekend of Nov 23-25th.
