Meteors come out off Christmas break with a tie in two games over the weekend
The Lockhart Funeral Home Peewee C girls played 2 very strong games over the weekend, out shooting their opponents in both matches but were victims of bad puck luck.

On Saturday the girls hosted the West Oxford Inferno and played a strong game out shooting the opposition 29-12 but wound up on the wrong end of a 3-0 score.  Goaltender Ally Vogels had a strong game and held the Meteors in but some bad bounces proved to be the difference.  With the scored 2-0 after the first the Meteors pressed hard but seemed to hit everything but the back of the net.  Then finally with 6:20 left in the 3rd the bad puck luck seemed to show again as the puck came out from behind the net and somehow bounced off of multiple sticks and skates to end up in our net.  Mitchell pulled the goalie with 3 minutes left and totally dominated play but could not get the equalizer.
On Sunday the girls traveled to Stephen Township to play the South Huron Sabres and played the same high intensity game and came out with a point in a 2-2 tie.  The Meteors came out flying and pressing the opponents and with 1:46 remaining in the first were rewarded.  Kara Rolph dug the puck out off the boards in her own end to Elli Morrison who then made a beautiful pass up ice to Ashley McLeod.  McLeod then fought off a couple defenders and fired a hard shot to beat the Sabres goalie to make it 1-0.  The scored remained the same until the beginning of the 3rd when Rachel Haefling took the puck in her own end and made a nice break out pass to Rolph who raced down the boards and roofed one past the netminder from the hashmarks for a 2-0 lead.  Goaltender Shawni DeJong was stellar in holding her team in the game as the Sabres pressed.  Midway through the 3rd DeJong stopped 2 point blank shots before the opponents buried the rebound.  Nearing the end of the period she stopped a breakaway to preserve the lead but again a bad bounce at center ice sent an opposing player in all alone and tied the game.   The Meteors pressed hard in the final minutes including Jessie Horan going coast to coast but ringing it off post in the dying seconds of the game.
Here's hoping the girls luck turns around and rewards their deserved hard work in the new year.

Happy New Year to all the girls and their families.
