Meteors Win Gold!!
The Lockhart Peewee C girls win in the finals defeating North Middlesex in the Mitchell Girls tournament with a total team effort.

On Sunday afternoon the girls came out with something to prove.  They were out to protect their home barn, and that they did, defeating North Middlesex 4-0 to win the Mitchell Girls Tournament.  After taking a few shifts to get their legs under them, the Meteors took control.  Carrying most of the play in the opposition end, Mitchell finally broke through at 5:58 of the first with a beautiful pass from Kara Rolph to Rachel Haefling who made no mistake and put the locals on top.  Mitchell continued to press with many scoring chances to close out the 1st period but this game was by no means one sided.  Goalie Ally Vogels made some spectacular saves including 2 breakaways and a huge toe save to preserve the lead.

The score remained 1-0 with both teams trading chances until 2:50 left in the second when hard work by Haefling and Rolph led to a goal by Ashley McLeod.  The following shift of Jade Huygen, Kaylee Seip and Shawni DeJong kept North Middlesex inside their zone and wore them down eventually leading to another goal from McLeod assisted by Rolph and Haefling to close out the period.

The 3rd period was back and forth as our girls fought fatigue to hold on to the lead.  The defense of Jessie Horan, Elli Morrison, Sadie Josling and Peyton Vanderkuylen stood strong to help preserve the win.  Huygen was a constant factor in helping to shut down the oppositions top skaters and Horan constantly put them on their heels with some fantastic end to end rushes.   Finally, as if to put a final exclamation point on the win, Brooklynn French scored into an empty net with 0:01 seconds left in the game with the lone assist going to Seip.

From the goaltending duo of Vogels and DeJong to the defense and forwards, all girls played excellent and this tournament was a total team victory.  Congratulations to the girls and coaches for all their hard work.
