Peewee C girls begin tournament with 2 wins
The Lockhart Peewee C girls begin the Mitchell Girls tournament with 2 wins and get a bye to Sunday's semi final.

On Thursday night the girls came out with a 1-0 victory over the Huron Heat in a very close fought game.  Shawni DeJong held the opposition scoreless with many great saves until our girls were able to find the back of the net with 3:02 left to play in the 3rd. Some hard work at the blue line by Peyton Vanderkuylen helped to keep the puck in the offensive zone.  Rachel Haefling with her strong effort along the boards got the puck free to Ashley McLeod who then made a beautiful pass to Kara Rolph for the game winner. The Heat pulled their goalie in the final minutes but were unable to capitalize with the help of some strong defensive zone play by Jessie Horan and Elli Morrison.

In the second game on Friday night the girls came out determined to avenge a previous loss in league play to the West Oxford Inferno.  The game was a close, back and forth contest with the Meteors coming out on top with a 5-3 win.  Ashley McLeod led the attack with a hat trick, followed with singles by Shawni DeJong and Kaylee Seip.  Assists went to Jade Huygen, Elli Morrison, Rachel Haefling, Peyton Vanderkuylen and Kara Rolph.  Jessie Horan had a big game, continually frustrating the Inferno with her defense and kept pushing the puck forward. The Meteors now play Sunday in the semi-finals at 10am.
