Silver Stick Finalists
The Atom LL hockey team continue to succeed in league and tournament action.  Following two straight wins in league action the meteors headed off to Collingwood to compete in the Siver Stick regional tournament.  The boys didn’t know what to expect heading into this tournament as they faced several teams they had never played.  Nevertheless, they were confident and ready for any challenge.

On Saturday, their first opponent was the Penetang Flames who had demonstrated significant success within their own league prior to the Silver Stick tournament.  After a slow start the boys were able to find their legs and finish the game with a 6-2 victory.  A few hours later they faced off against the Innisfil Winterhawks for game two.  The Meteors continued their confident play as they defeated the Winterhawks 9-4.  In the evening they found themselves up against one of the host Collingwood Blackhawks teams.  With effective teamwork and incredible goaltending by Aedan M. the Meteors finished the game with a commanding 10-0 win.

The three straight wins set the boys in second place heading into the semifinals on Sunday against the Penetang Flames.  The Flames charged into the semifinal with determination as they took the lead early in the first period.  The Meteors answered back in the second period to tie the score at 1-1.  Penetang regained the lead early in the third period but that was to be it for the Flames.  With the fans on the edge of their seats, the Meteors dug in and found the net two more times ending the game with a well-earned 3-2 win and a birth into the finals.

For the final game, the Meteors had to take on the Barrie Blue Thunder who were undefeated during the tournament and had only given up one goal for the entire tournament.  Both teams came out strong and determined to win.  Period’s one and two were evenly played so they entered into period three with a 1-1 tie.  Despite a valiant effort by the Meteors, the Blue Thunder began to take the lead and finish the game with a 6-1 score.

Waiting for the Final

Needless to say, the Atom LL boys should be proud of their achievements during this tough tournament.  Every player knew their positions well and gave their very best efforts during each game.  Off the ice was just as much fun for the boys as they thoroughly enjoyed their time together bonding as friends.  Great things are to come as they continue with league action and a couple more tournaments down the road.

Many thanks go to all the coaching staff for their hard work and dedication.  The boys appreciate your leadership and expertise.  In addition, the team is very thankful for their team sponsor, the MCR Advanced Collision Centres.

Another busy week is ahead as the Atom LL Meteors play against the BCH Ice Dogs 2 on Wednesday, the Seaforth Stars on Saturday and the Goderich Sailors on Sunday.  Come on out and cheer them on!
