Novice Girls Finish Second Overall in Playoff Division Final
The Dodge Caravan Kids Novice C Girls played well in the series final, but were up against a red-hot Inferno goaltender.

After a quick game of mini-sticks before hitting the ice, the girls were ready to go.  The Meteors had some good breakaway chances from Ellie MacArthur and Alise Crawford in the first period, but it was West Oxford that would get on the board first.

Mitchell kept their spirits up as the lead was still within reach.  They had even more breakaways from Crawford and MacArthur in the second period.  With seven seconds remaining in the period the Inferno put another goal past Ally VanBakel to make the score 2-0.

The two team’s records against each other over the course of the season were quite even, so it was still anyone’s game heading into the third period. VanBakel proved this by pulling off a fantastic stick save, stopping a great chance from lone Inferno player out front.  She did her best and along with the defensive squad, kept Inferno at bay the rest of the game.

Mitchell kept pressing and had more opportunities to score in the third, including a long pass by Kayla Visneskie from the corner, through the Inferno goalie’s legs to a waiting Martyna Hartwig, who missed the chance at the turnaround goal.

A time-out was called to regroup with about two minutes remaining in the game. A good closing effort was put in, but the win wasn’t meant to be with the buzzer ending at a 2-0 loss for the Novice Girls.

It was a fun year with some great pre-game disco parties and lots of chatter on the bench.  They also learned quite a bit over the season.  Many thanks to the coaches and parents for making this a great year for the novice girls.
