Novice C Girls Lose to Sarnia in Semi-Fianls

Saturdays game saw the girls face-off against Lambeth, with the winner of that game going on to face top-seeded Sarnia in the semi-finals.

After more than two full periods of hockey, the scoreboard remained blank for both sides. The Girls had lots of pressure in the Lambeth end and were rewarded when Kayla Visneskie netted the lone goal of the game in the third period.  Netminder, Martyna Hartwig made a some key saves to keep the girls in the game and record the 1-0 shoutout.

The semi-final game against Sarnia would prove to be a difficult match. Mitchell was down 2-0 heading into the second period which saw Sarnia grab three more goals.  With seconds dying down in the period, Ellie MacArthur would make one last attempt on a breakaway, but was cut short by the sound of the buzzer.

With just under five minutes remaining in the third, the Meteors were able to get on the board with a quick rebound goal by MacArthur who banged it in on assists from Kayla Visneskie and Alise Crawford. Later on, the girls had a good opportunity taken away by Sarnia on a hooking penalty. The Meteors powerplay came up short, and with 3 minutes left on the clock, Goalie Selina Gethke would head to the bench for the extra skater advantage.  Every effort was made to grab a goal but with thirty seconds left in the game Sarnia netted the final goal of the game past the diving Meteor skater.  Gethke, who made several fantastic saves throughout the game, went back in net to finish off the remainder game on the 6-1 loss.

The Dodge Caravan Kids Novice C Girls had a lot of fun and showed great sportsmanship throughout the tournament.  They represented Mitchell well.
