The Mitchell Meteors Peewee AE Team sponsored by New Orleans
Pizza, secured top spot in their WOAA division to advance to the finals.
The Meteors grouped with highway #23 rivals Listowel AE and Central Perth battled in a 6 game round robin. Having won 2 of their first 3 games, the locals came away with a close 2-1 victory over Central Perth March 6th . The teams would exchange first period goals in the final 30 seconds of the frame with Brock Boville opening the scoring with assists going to Jarrett Van Bakel and Braydon Glauser. Central Perth would respond 10 seconds later. The teams would battle through a scoreless second period. Early in the third Van Bakel would secure the win with a third period wrap around goal.
A couple nights later Mitchell would travel to Kurtzville to face Listowel. Needing a win to secure a trip to the final the locals skated to a scoreless first. The Meteors would find their stride as Jack Small, Boville and VanBakel would all find the net opening up a 3-0 lead after 2 periods. The third would see both offences open up as each team score three goals in the frame. James McCarthy would score early in the third, while Van Bakel would add his second of the game. Defenceman Logan Ruby would seal the win with an empty netter to give the Meteors a 6-3 win. Jack Small would contribute a pair of assists on the night with single helpers from Van Bakel, McCarthy, Boville and Ethan Meinen.
Having secured their trip to the finals the locals would make a final trip to Listowel for the season on Sunday night and came away with a loss.
The team will now face TCMDHA in a best 2 of 3 series beginning this weekend.
