Mitchell Champions – ZMAA LL Tournament
December 16th – Dorchester

The MCR Atom LL started the Zurich tournament as the home team facing off against Dorchester.  Both teams seemed evenly matched with some great back-to-back action.  With 57 seconds left in the 1st, Zackary Siemon-Hergott shot the puck right through the five hole with a great assist coming from Griffin Bree.  But the action didn’t stop there, 12 seconds later Griffin sped down the ice to get Mitchell’s 2nd goal in the 1st period.  Dorchester stepped up and right from the face-off, with 25 seconds left in the first, landed their first goal.

Dorchester would tie the game up in the second at the 5 minute mark, and then take the lead with their 3rd goal of the game 2 minutes later. In the 3rd, Rogan Catalan, just like Griffin earlier, snuck Mitchell’s 3rd goal right through the five hole with another amazing assist, this time coming from Charlie Wolfe.  With an amazing 1st game of the tournament, the MCR Mitchell Atom LL left the ice with the game ending in a 3-3 tie giving them 1 point to start off the tournament.

December 16th – South Huron Sabres

Just a short hour later, MCR Mitchell Atom LL went into their second game of the Zurich tournament facing off against the South Huron Sabres.   Both teams fought hard with some great plays.  Aedan McCann held down the fort making some amazing saves.  With the first period being scoreless, Mitchell was eager to get some points on the board.   Bradley Dearing made that final chip in after Matthew Menheer and Kara Rolph teamed up with assists to get that first goal.   With an amazing team effort, Mitchell kept the puck away from our net allowing Aedan McCann to get his first Shut-Out of the season.
The Second game of the tournament ended with some wild cheering and a final score of 1-0 Mitchell.  With a Win & a Tie, the Mitchell boys won the Thunder Division to send them to the Gold Medal game.

December 17th – Mt Brydges Division A Championship game

After an amazing first day at the Zurich tournament, the MCR Mitchell Atom LL team headed into the Division A Championship game against Mt. Brydges.  The game started strong and the action was back-to-back.  After some fierce action, Zackary Siemon-Hergott found a break and charged down the ice with Rogan Catalan close in tow.  Zackary Siemon-Hergott got caught in the corner but was able to make a sweet pass to an open Rogan Catalan who netted that puck straight to the back putting Mitchell on the score board with the first goal with only 3 minutes left in the first.
3 minutes into the second is where the action began to heat up. Griffin Bree shot down the ice firing straight on the net. The Mt. Brydges goalie was quick on his feet and stopped the first shot.  Griffin Bree got caught up at the side of the net tripping and spun around, where unknown to him when he spun around that his stick hit the puck firing it to the other side of the net for an amazing breathtaking goal.
Heading into the 3rd period, Mitchell was up 2-0 hoping for another shutout win. Unfortunately, Mt. Brydges was able to sneak one past Aedan McCann to get a goal on the board.  Mitchell was not going to back down and held the puck at bay. With 1:57 left in the 3rd, we headed to the penalty box. At this point, Mt Brydges pulled their goalie putting them at a 6-4 man advantage for the remainder of the game.  The Stands were cheering and roaring but the Mitchell team really put the fight on in defense mode.  They held off the 6 player rush and that Championship game ended in a well-deserved win!
What an amazing weekend the MCR Atom LL group had. All players put forth the extra effort required to get that Medal around their neck!  Totally AWESOME & AMAZING boys!  Well-deserved WIN!!
