Tie, loss and win to end February
The Larry Hudson Chevrolet Mitchell Midget Local League teams continues to show strength and teamwork as they finish the month of February with one loss, onetime and one win. We tied against Goderich on February 21 played at the Moncton arena, and the next game was against BCH played at Mitchell on the 24th. Which exulted in a 7-4 loss. Our win came against BCH on February 27 in the Hensall barn were the boys stayed consistent for an end result of a win 5-3.

The Monkton game on February 21 was a nail biter. The boys came out strong and fast. Both teams showed skill and good sportsmanship throughout with only a little referee interjection. Our goalie, James Copeland was on top of his game and kept the puck on the correct side of the line.

The next game in Mitchell against BCH was also intense. Goaltender James Copeland our our Midget team surrendered the first goal to BCH in the first thirty seconds of the game. We came back a short two minutes later to score against BCH by Christian Simpson, assisted by Clayton McCarthy. The next two goals also came within minutes of each other with BCH scoring at 12:11 and our Tristan Beehler at 11:51 ending the first period tied at 2-2.

The second period began with our boys coming on strong and keeping up defence and offence. Multiple sin bin visits by both teams were served. our team scored in the second period at 11:31 and 9:18 by Trevor DeJong and Clayton McCarty. The BCH boys got one passed our defence and goalie at 3:14 resulting in 4-3 lead at the end of the second.

The ice was clear and teams came back to the rink after a short break to win. The intensity of the sport began to show and once again the record keepers would have a busy third period with numerous penalties served by both teams. BCH scores a short handed goal as aggression begins. Mitchell comes back with shots on net and a bullet fired at the BCH goalie with a nice grab to protect the net. BCH regains their lead 6-4 with 4:20 remaining as Mitchell begins to struggle to find their drive.

The mitchell fan base continues to support with great cheers and words of encouragement. Listening to reactions throughout you can hear cheers, grunts and groans. Dedicated fans for sure.

The buzzer sounds and the game is over with a loss 7-4.

We return to play BCH on February 28 at the Hensall arena. There is no love lost between the teams as they battle for puck possession and continue to shoot on net.

Again, numerous trips to the penalty box were served by both teams. Parents and fans sit at the edge of their seats hoping for a goal and cheering on their favourite team. Persistence and patience pays off for Mitchell at this game resulting in a win on March 2 of 3-2.
