December Recap
The Tru Country Peewee Girls have had some close battles during the month of December but are looking forward to a great 2017!

Mitchell vs Woolwich Wild – December 10th

On our home turf, our gals would dominate the Woolwich Wild during this game and would come victorious 4-0.  Makayla Beuerman would earn the shut out making some fabulous saves.  Arianna Catalan, Nicole Simmons and Brooklyn Gethke would each get their names on the scoresheet in the first period with help from line mates, Meg Schoonderwoerd, Jaimie Badley and Emma French.  Way to go girls, great plays so far!  The second period would solve nothing and half way thru the third period, Alexa Hahn would be in the right place at the right time to net the puck to increase our lead to 4.  That play wouldn’t have been possible without the quick puck movement and shooting of Nicole Simmons and Emma French.  Great game girls!

Mitchell vs Twin Centres – December 18th.

Another game on our home turf but this time we had something to prove to Twin Centres as our first meeting wasn’t good, we had an “off game” and we wanted to show those girls that we were a lot better than that.  First period would settle nothing but Twin Centres would take advantage of a couple of defensive break downs in front of our net to score in both the second and third periods.  Despite some good chances we just couldn’t seem to get that little black disk in the back of their net.  We would lose the game 2-0.  Tough one!

Mitchell vs St Marys – December 22nd

Just a few days before Christmas, we traveled to St Mary’s to take on the Rock.  We all seemed to be a bit slow and sluggish right from the puck drop and St Mary’s took control.  We surrender the first goal of the game and kept them off the scoreboard and down by 1 until the start of the third period.  Right from the puck drop to start the final period, St Marys would score to increase their lead to 2.  With a quick pep chat from our bench staff to try and light a fire under our butts to get us going, it took Brooklyn Gethke to skate the puck from our end to their end to shoot and grab her rebound to net the puck in the back of the net.  Great work, now we are just down by one.  With the time winding down, St Mary’s once again took advantage of our slow play and scored to end the game 3-1.

Mitchell vs Guelph – December 28th

With Christmas done and over, we made the treck to Guelph to take on the Gryphons.  This game was back and fourth for the whole game but Guelph would get on the board first in the last few minutes of the opening period.  Shoot girls, just got tied up in our end and couldn’t get it cleared out.  Despite some great shots on net we would fall short and lose the game 1-0.

It’s been an up and down season so far for these gals.  Close battles each and every game!  As we start off 2017, the girls are looking forward to taking part in the Pink on the Rink tournament this weekend in Exeter and a few more league games in the following weeks.

So come on out and cheer on our gals!
