Walter Gretzky Tournament, Feb 17-19, Brantford ON
The Mitchell Meteor  Atom HL girls took the silver in the Walter Gretzky tournament, sporting a 3-1-1 record over the weekend.

In the first game, the Meteors took down the Brantford Ice Cats by a 4-0 spread.  Rachel Haefling, Josie Walker, Brooklyn Boville and Jade Huygen were the scorers.  Netminder Allison Vogels’ total shutdown of Brantford  earned her the player of the game award.

Next, the South Huron Sabres drew first blood in a battle that saw the Meteors rise from the ashes of a 3 goal deficit to claim a 4-3 victory over their embittered league rivals.  Walker thrice lit the lamp, with Sadie Josling adding the single.  Aubrey Vosper added two assists, and was granted the player of the game for her capable and unselfish passing.

In the third round robin game,  the Flamborough Falcons and the Meteors shared a double shutout in a game that had both goaltenders dancing.  Haefling received the player of the game award based on her vigorous boardwork and puck movement.

Finishing 1st in their division, the Meteors crossed over to eke out a 2-1 advantage over the Lucan Irish.  Huygen and BB both tallied in the win.  Elli Morrison’s strong play in the home zone garnered her the player of the game award.

In the Finals, the Flamborough Falcons returned to exact vengeance on the Meteors for breaking their winning streak earlier in the tournament.  The girls fell 2-0 to a determined Falcons’ squad.   Jade Huygen was awarded the player of the game for her determination in both zones.
