Novice C Girls Come Home From International Silver Stick as Champs

The Perth County Chrysler Dodge Caravan Kids Novice girls participated in the International Silver Stick Tournament this past weekend and returned home as champions.  The Meteors were seeded in the tougher pool, which included Kincardine and Walkerton and after two hard fought games, ended up first in their pool and earned a bye to the semi finals.  In the semi finals the girls would meet up with Kincardine again and defeat them setting the stage for a Sunday morning final versus the Walkerton Capitals.  The girls would not disappoint and work hard and come home champs with a 2-0 victory.

The first game of the round robin would put the Meteors up against the Walkerton Capitals.  The girls came out on a mission and scored early in the first.  Kara Rolph would get the goal with asists going to Ashley McLeod and Ava Harmer.  The second period would see the Meteors open things up as they would score three goals.  McLeod, Rolph and Ava Harmer would be the goal scorers.  Harmer would also collect two assists McLeod, Zoey Michel, Rylee Kipfer, and Jayda Houben.  Mitchell could have been up another if not for the Walkerton goaltender as she robbed Camryn Medhurst on a breakaway with a beautiful toe save.  McLeod would tack on the fifth goal in the third and Harmer would pick up her fourth assist.  Kipfer, Alissa Insley, Heather Ogilvie and Jessie Horan wer again steady on defence and Grace Kipfer stopped every shot sent her way for her first of four shut outs on the weekend.
In game two of the round robin the Meteors would face the Kincardine Kinucks.  The girls would again come to play.  McLeod would show her dominance as she would score all three goals, one in each period.  Ava Harmer picked up two assists, while Rolph and Insley picked up assists.  G. Kipfer was again solid as she posted her second shut out of the tournament.  The girls would pinch first place in their pool and advance to the semi final on Saturday night.
The semi final would see a rematch with the strong Kincardine team.  After a day hanging out with their parents at the hotel, the Meteors and their parents, both feeling refreshed showed up with their work boots on ready to work.  After a scoreless first period the girls got on the board early in the second as McLeod would score assisted by A. Harmer.  In the third Michel would tack on the insurance marker, McLeod assisted.  G. Kipfer continued to frustrate the Kinucks as she held them scoreless, with the help of her defence corp.
In the finals the Meteors would find themselves matched up with the Walkerton Capitals.  The first period was a back and forth affair with either team able to find their way onto the board.  The second would see the Meteors break things open.  Alissa Insley would open the scoring up and Danielle Harmer would add a second.  Rolph would pick up an assist on Harmer's goal.  The defence of Ogilvie, Horan, R. Kipfer and Insley must be commended as the played solid in front of Grace Kipfer all weekend, as the Meteors did not give up a goal and Kipfer would earn 4 shut outs.
Congrats girls and coaching staff on all your hard work this weekend.  It is a great accomplishment to come home as International Silver Stick Champions.
