Devilettes Tourney Takeaway
The J P Uniac Insurance Brokers Atom girls 2 team traveled to London this past weekend to participate in the Devilettes Hockey Tournament.
The Atom Girls 2 team started the tournament play Friday morning facing off against an offensive Oakville squad. The girls were still working on their plays, and catching up to speed, but they could not catch the other team resulting in a scoreless loss 2-0. Stepping up their play the team came back for more that day to beat London Black 1-0. Nicole being the lone scorer.
Action continued Saturday as The Atom 2 Girls took on London Orange. With explosive scoring the Meteors excelled to the top. Scoring was shared all around by Hayden, Brooklyn, Charlee F all contributing one goal, Claire and added two and Josephine J contributed three. Final score an impressive 10-0 win. Shut out belonged to Charlee G.
Advancing onto the quarter finals Saturday evening the girls won against The London Purple 3-2. The fans were on their feet as the girls caught up in the last minutes of play in the third period with Claire dekeing, dangling and scoring to tie it up at 2-2. After two scoreless overtime periods, the game proceeded into a shoot out. Once again Claire found the back of the net to take the team to the semi-finals Sunday morning. Golden goal tending by Kora kept us in the game.
An early start and a tough team in London Ice Breakers proved to be a combination too tough for the Meteors. Playing hard but coming up short, 5-0 loss.
A great confidence and hockey skill building weekend for the girls.
