Pink on the Rink Finalists!
The Atom Girls 2 team took Exeter's Pink on the Rink Tournament by storm this weekend, winning the silver medal!

Action started Friday morning as Mitchell traveled to Exeter to face the home team of the South Huron Sabres. League standing rivals, with some history Mitchell knew they had their work cut out for them. The team worked together more than ever and stayed strong on their sticks. Unfortunately it didn't take Huron long to knock the wind out of their sails, leaving them behind with a final score of 8-0 for South Huron.

Determined not to be dismissed then girls came out to play for their second game Friday afternoon. Facing off against East Lambton proved a better match. The forwards were winning the face offs and moving the puck into the offensive zone, the wingers demonstrated better positioning and kept the game moving with heads up passes. The defense pinched at the blue line and headed off many shots on net. Standing strong in net was Cora, small but mighty. The team's improvement amazed the crowd of parents and coaches. End result was a loss 0-2, but not for lack of effort.

The girls came back for more Saturday afternoon, well rested and ready to play some hockey, Mitchell style. Having lost two games in the tournament the Meteors were in a do or die position to make it to the semi-finals. Holy macaroni!! They were on fire! Each game into the tournament the girls kept working together and improving their game. The forwards charged up the ice, with lots of break-aways, but only getting one past the strong goalie in net. Josephine scored, assisted by Claire and Hayden. Finally on the scoreboard, Mitchell did not let up. The defense were determined to turn away their forwards, and Cora shut down any shots that came her way. A win 1-0 for Mitchell, what a great feeling!

The Atom girls were going to the finals to face their greatest rivals the South Huron Sabres for the championship. Pumped up and full of chicken fingers and chocolate milk the girls stepped up to the challenge. Stopping South Huron's game dominance and remaining in the game. A first period goal by Josie, and another one added by Josephine gave us 2, not enough to win, but close. Final 3-2. Way to go girls!
