Meteors Win In OT With Seconds Left!
The Scotiabank Bantam LL played last night in Monkton against rivals BCH #2 and it turned out to be a great game to watch.  It kept everyone on the edge of their seats as we needed a ten minute overtime to settle the game.

With the chance of moving on to the finals out of our sight, the game plan for last night’s game was to have a good solid game and finish the season on a winning streak and that is exactly what the boys did!  We all knew this was going to be a tough, rough game as our opponents play that style of hockey but our boys were up to the challenge.

First period was good back and forth hockey with both teams trying to get that all important first goal of the game but the speed of Eric Dearing would prevail and score on their goalie to give the good boys the lead.  That would be the only scoring in this opening period.

Second period the intensity picked up as did the boys going into the bad box for both teams.  With the puck being sent end to end, BCH would score to even the game but shortly after that Karsen Eisler would screen the goalie and tap the puck pass him to regain the lead 2-1 assisted by Jake Walker and Connor Louwagie. Nice play boys!  As the period came to the end our goalie Steve Daum made some key saves to hold the score where it was.

A break was needed to try and settle everyone down as a few tempers were starting to fly high in the end of the previous period, with everyone in check to start the third we knew this period would be great.  Right from the faceoff our boys tried to do everything needed to keep our lead and the bragging rights of the night but those Ice Dogs had other plans and they would once again score to tie the game.  Don’t worry about it boys, you’ll get it back!  Our gritty group continued to play their game of hockey and again would be rewarded for their efforts; Eric Dearing would lead the entourage with Connor Louwagie and Cole Wilton earning the assist.  With time winding down and us holding a slim lead, BCH would once again spoil our lead and tie the game to end the third period.

Guess what, ten minutes sudden death overtime would be needed to hopefully find a winner in this barn burner!  The clock was set and ready to start this dreaded overtime as everyone sat on the edge of their seats.  This period was back and forth for both teams as neither team was willing to give up and both goalies were being solid as rocks.  With a few great chances to score but just not able to get anything in and the clock continued to count down.  With the last minute of play in the overtime and a tie looming in the future for both teams, time outs were taking for both sides to rest players and get their game attack planned.  As the clock showed 16.9 seconds left and the faceoff in our end, the speedy trio of Anthony Beuerman, Karsen Eisler and Eric Dearing would head up the ice controlling the puck possession and with some great playmaking from behind the net, they would pass it around to Eric Dearing who was in front of the BCH goalie to tap it in to win the game and the tossing of the hats with 7.8 seconds left in the game!  Way to go boys on the win and to Eric Dearing for the hat trick!

The boys have their final game of the season on Friday night in Mitchell against Listowel, so come on out and cheer on the boys.
