Novice Reps capture WOAA Twolan Division Championship
The McLaughlin Auto Wholesaling Novice Reps capped off an incredible season on March 26th, winning the WOAA Twolan Division Championship by sweeping the Saugeen Shores Storm in three games.  After a couple of high-scoring wins to open the series, the Meteors did not cruise to victory easily, narrowly winning the clinching Game 3 by a 2-1 score.

The locals came out of the gate fired up in the first period, and struck first on the scoreboard.  With the game barely two minutes old, the Meteors went to the powerplay following a slashing call to the Storm.  Defenseman Ben Medhurst let go a shot from the point that was deflected by a Saugeen Stores defender right to Charlie "The Smiling Assassin" Geiger in the slot, and he made no mistake in burying it for a 1-0 lead.  Goalie Jack Bree would help preserve the lead through the first period, including a dazzling stop on a 2-on-1.
Bree continued his sparkling play in the second period with another huge save off a Meteors turnover behind the net.  Saugeen Shores tied the game at 5:42 of the second, scoring on a deflection in the crease.  The Storm goaltender was also at his best making several outstanding saves, including a fantastic glove save on a Jordan Visneskie shot that was on its way into the top corner.
Following a hooking call to the home team, the league's top penalty kill went to work, as captain Zach Houben found that extra space to scoop up a loose puck at his blue line and dance his way in to score yet another shorthanded goal that would prove to be the game winner.
The teams battled hard through a scoreless third, and the Meteors would kill two more penalties to preserve the 2-1 win to take the series.  Bree again made a huge save on a 3-on-1 as the Storm would continue to press for the tying goal, and the Storm goaltender continued to counter with his own spectacular play, stopping Ryan Hubbard cold on a 2-on-1 after a picture perfect pass from Visneskie.  With under two minutes remaining in the game, Bree again stole the show with an outstanding glove save on a Storm scoring chance.
The Novice Reps' back-to-back championship was the icing on the cake to an outstanding season of 61 wins, 9 losses, and 3 ties, with Houben the lone returnee from last year's team that defeated the Kincardine Kinucks.
From the coaching staff and parents that followed you along for the ride all year, great job from a group of fantastic young boys that truly were a pleasure to watch every time you stepped on the ice!
