“METEORS WIN IT! METEORS WIN IT! OMG, THE METEORS WIN IT!”
The Scotiabank Bantam LL team took to the ice in their home barn at 9pm on Friday, February 27th against the Goderich Sailors.  The air was thick with tension as the boys lined up at centre ice.  To date, Mitchell has always succumbed to this aggressive Goderich team, but tonight things were about to change, tonight Mitchell would rise to the top and claim their well-deserved win.

This fast paced game moved quickly from end to end during the first period with a few shots on each net.  Our goalie Reid DEGROOT worked his magic right off the bat saving several shots and robbing Goderich at every turn.  At approximately the nine minute mark three familiar faces arrived and surrounded Goderich’s net and seconds later Jake MONDEN one-timed the puck deep into their net scoring goal number one for the good guys.  Zeke KOERT and Jackson MACARTHUR were right there and scooped up the assists.  The crowd went wild!  The Meteors were on their game and were a force to be reckoned with all period long.  Less than three minutes later, the boys decided to pad their lead.  MACARTHUR weaved his way up to the goalie, deked him out and scored goal number two!  MONDEN and Des FINLAYSON assisted.  Once again the crowd went wild.  The period ended 2 to 0 us.

Period two DEGROOT was on fire as he stopped shot after shot enabling them to hold onto their lead.  The team worked hard to bump up the scoreboard, but maintained their lead and ended the period the same as the first, 2 to 0 us.

After a brief break between periods the boys came back, minus some of their prior gumption.  They let their guard down and within a matter of minutes Goderich tied up the game.  Things seemed to fall apart and Mitchell could not get the winning goal even with the assistance of Goderich’s never ending visits to the penalty box.  The buzzer sounded leaving the teams tied 2 to 2.

Ten overtime minutes lit up the scoreboard and it really was anybody’s game at this point.  Who wanted it more?  That’s right…Mitchell wanted it more!  After only two and a half minutes they took the puck down to Goderich’s end and after a brief battle KOERT sealed Mitchell’s fate by scoring the winning goal!  MONDEN and Hayden ADAIR claimed the assists.  The Mitchell fans sprang to their feet and their cheers roared throughout the arena.  Mitchell finally got their win against Goderich and the team celebrated their well-deserved victory!

Once again, it was a pleasure to watch these Mitchell boys play with maturity and pride for their hometown.  It speaks volumes of the entire team that they have the ability to keep a level head and their composure throughout the entire game.  Well done boys!  Good luck tomorrow night when you face off against the Ripley Wolves at 5:45pm in Mitchell.
