Midgets play well but drop first game of regular season
The Terry’s Auto Service Midgets saw their regular season unbeaten string ended at three games Monday, Oct. 20 with a hard-fought 3-2 home loss to Listowel.
Listowel jumped out to a 2-0 lead eight minutes into the game but Jordan Mabb, on a coast-to-coast individual effort, cut the lead in half. But Listowel took advantage of a late first period penalty and scored on the man advantage with eight seconds left to restore their two-goal edge.

Evan Chaffe scored in the second to draw the Meteors close, but Mitchell - despite many glorious opportunities in the third period - failed to net the equalizer.

Mitchell opened the regular season with a 4-2 win over Seaforth Oct. 10 and a 2-0 shutout win in Brussels on Wednesday, Oct. 15 against Blyth-Brussels.

In Seaforth, Devon Schinbein, Kevin Rops, Evan Chaffe and call-up Eric Rolph scored.

Dan Skinner earned the shutout in Brussels, aided by steady defensive play in front of him. Jared Sykes goal six minutes into the game stood up as the winner, while Chaffe sealed it with an empty net marker in the dying seconds.

In exhibition play Sunday at home to Hanover, Schinbein and Rops both scored twice to pace a 7-4 win. Tyler Smith, Jake Shuker and Chaffe added others while Cody Pauli and Jordan Mabb both had two assists. Schinbein was foiled on a first period penalty shot.
Mitchell will participate in their first tournament of the season this weekend, opening with three games Saturday in round-robin play in Kincardine. The Meteors face their hosts from Kincardine, then Twin Centre and Minto. Playoff action will take place Sunday.
