Atom Girls still on Fire
The SunLife - Paul VanGerwen Atom Girls are on fire and continuing their winning streak in both league playoffs and their quest to play at Provincals.

The Atom girls are in a tough group for their round robin home-home series playoffs. The schedule is set for games against Lambeth, South Huron and Sarina.
Our girls would start their playoff run this past weekend with Sarina, coming to play on our rink and determined to show those Sting what Meteor power is!  Emma F opened the scoring with Brooklyn G by her side to give the good girls the lead, within a minute Sarina answered right back to square the game at 1.  With the clock running down to the end of the period, Jaimie B knocked another one behind their goalie from a great defensive play from Taya C to once again give us the advantage.  During the second period, despite some great chances from our offense they were held off the scoreboard to extend our lead.  Sarina would score on a breakaway top shelf shot to tie the game going into the third.  Our Meteors were keen to get started again after a pep talk from the coaching staff  to come away with the win.  Last period was all Mitchell as the girls dug deep to keep the play in Sarina's end.  Emma F would add 2 goals from line mates Brooklyn G and Erica P to scuere the lead and in the dying minutes of the game Taya C would seal the victory with an empty net goal.  Girls took the first game 5-2.  Rematch game is this Sunday in Sarina.
While league playoffs are happening, the Atom girls are also trying to earn a spot in their group of South Huron, Stratford, St Mary's and BCH to play in the Provincal tournament in April.
Stratford was the first team we had to face in our quest to Provincals, so on Sunday we played in their home arena and extended the hot streak with Makayla B earning yet another shutout.  Both teams were getting reacquainted in the first period as we haven't played each other since early in the season.  A few minutes into the second period, the girls started shooting towards their goalie and Emma F would net 2 goals with Erica P and Meg S earning the assists.  Two periods played with us by 2 on the scoreboard.  Brooklyn G had many opportunities but the Stratford goalie had her number until Erica P passed the puck and Brooklyn G knocked it pass her to add to our lead.  With the game coming to an end, Stratford continued to press but our girls just weren't backing down.  With the 3-0 win, it gave our girls the lead in their Provincal pool.
Last night it was a bit snowy but we traveled to Blyth to take on BCH.  Again our girls were excitied to play as they all want to go away on a "hockey holiday" to Provincals in April.  With a quick line change in the first minute of play Emma F found the puck in centre ice and skated away to a breakaway goal.  This would be the only goal scored this period.  Our offensive lines of Jaimie B, Alyssa E, Charlee F, Emily D, Jaelyn M, Brooklyn G, Emma F and Erica P were all over the BCH girls not giving them much room at all to find their open players but with a quick pass off the boards and hitting one of their players in front of our net, they would score to even the game out.   To end the second period, Brooklyn G with BCH players all around her, pushed the puck up the ice and would score to give us the advantage again.  With our girls having the lead 2-1 going into the third period, we would dominate the play from end to end and Emma F would score 2 goals to earn the hat trick of the game and Erica P added a goal.  BCH had a few good chances to score but between our defensive power pairs of Taya C, Meg S, Ava G and Brett G they helped our goalie Makayla B to make the saves she needed.  With the solid play and determination the girls showed during this game, they came out on top 5-1 and getting them one step closer to their Provincal dream.
This weekend the girls will play their 3rd Provincal play down game against South Huron and a rematch with Sarina for league playoffs.
Keep up the amazing plays, you girls rock!
