Shutout Weekend
The Paul VanGerwen Atom Girls did a bit of traveling this weekend and blanked both teams they played!

On Saturday the girls traveled to Lucan to play the Irish but luck wasn't on their side as our girls dominated the game from start to finish.  The girls didn't even allow a face off to happen in their end of play the entire game!  Erica P scored the opening goal with just over a minute left in the first period with help from line mate Emma F.  Second period started and Emma F added to the lead from Alyssa E pass and Erica P would add her second goal of the game within a minute from the play making of Emma F and Brooklyn G.  A couple of minutes later Emma F would net her second of the game as well.  During the third period, Brooklyn G worked her magic to set Emma F up to score the hattrick of the day.  Game was winding down with us leading 5-0 and curfew was called as time had run out.  The Meteors skated away with a 5-0 win and Makayla B earned another shutout.
The next day the team made the long treck to Mooretown to play the Lady Flags.  With the long drive the girls seemed to start this game a little sugglish but Brooklyn G got a breakaway pass from Emma F and netted it behind the goalie to give us the advantage going into the second.  Our girls were working hard and had many shots on their goalie but she was keen to keep the score to 1.  Half way through the second period Emma F would add to the lead with Brooklyn G and Taya C adding their assistance.  Second period ended with us up by 2 and Makayla B working on her second shutout of the weekend.  Third period started after a flood and the girls continued to tie up the Mooretown players not giving them much space to skate or pass to their line mates.  With the clock drawing near the end and Mooretown desperate to score, they pulled the goalie for the extra attacker. A mad scramble of players around our net and many clearing attempts tried, Mooretown put the pressure on our goalie Makayla B but she did what she needed to do to keep that puck in front of her and give the girls the chance they needed to clear the zone and move the puck towards the empty net.  Although we were not able to score on the empty net, the buzzer went and ended the game with us winning 2-0.
The final game of the girls regular season will be a rematch with Mooretown this Saturday at home, good luck girls and let's finish our regular season on a high note!
