2 Big wins to finish playoff series
The SunLife - Paul Van Gerwen Atom girls finished their playoff series with 2 big wins against BAD this past weekend, for the right to move on to the next round of playoffs.
The girls traveled to Alymer on Saturday morning to take on BAD. Our girls started off a little slow and BAD was able to score with 23 seconds left in the first period on their power play with a bad bounce off our goaltender to give them the 1 goal advantage going into the second. Half way through the second our girls had gained some energy and Emma F scored her first of 3 goals with Erica P making the pass to tie it at 1. BAD fought back and got another one past to gain back the lead. Play was back and fourth and our girls taking shots on the BAD goaltender but not able to sneak any past, Arianna C took a nice shot at the net and Emma F was able to tap in the rebound for her second goal and tie it up at 2. During the third period both teams were trying to get the go ahead goal but solid goal-tending from Makayla B shut down BAD and Emma F found the back of the net for the Hat Trick, assisted by Hannah E. The team would take the win 3-2 and get ready for the rematch the next night (Sunday) in Mitchell.
Sunday night was a rematch and both teams wanted the win to continue on. Mitchell started the game strong with our girls taking command of the game and not allowing BAD to get in our zone. Makayla B made a couple of great saves during the first period and strong defensive play by all teammates gave us many chances to score. Taya C went end to end and took a good shot to give us the 1 goal lead going into the second. The second period was dominant by us and Emma F scored unassisted and Erica P found the back of the BAD net from a pass from Emma F to give us a 3-0 lead with only seconds left in the second. The third period was all Mitchell again with us not allowing BAD much room to skate with the puck and taking chances away from them to take a shot at our net. Makayla B made a few more saves in the third to give her the shutout and the girls the win 3-0.
Congratulations girls on a great series against St Clair, Zorra and BAD coming out with a 4 win, 1 loss and 1 tie record. Good luck in the next round.
This weekend our girls are looking forward to an exhibition game against Zurich.
