Good Team Effort in the B.A.D. Tournament
This past weekend the SunLife Atom Girls traveled to Aylmer to play in their B.A.D. tournament. They played some great hockey and came out with 2 win - 2 loss record.
On Friday the girls had 2 games on their schedule with the first one against the Zurich Thunder. The team came to play this game with Emma F scoring all 4 of our team's goals. Maggie P (8), Erica P and Ava G provided the help. Makayla B played a solid game in net only allowing Zurich to get one behind her.
Emma F was named our team's player of the game.
The team's next challenge was the St Thomas Panthers early afternoon. Again the girls came out with a vengeance and scored a couple of goals in the first period. Maggie P (17) scored our first goal with help from Taya C and then Emma F put another in the back of next with the assistance of her line mates Brooklyn G and Erica P. Giving our team to 2-0 advantage.
The second period had some well played hockey but neither team was able to put the puck by either goaltender as they both were solid, giving us the 2 goal lead going into the third.
Once again the girls started the period stong and found the back of the St Thomas net 3 more times during the period. Emma F scored 2 of the goals with Erica P providing the other. Jamie B and Brooklyn G got the assists. Makayla B played another strong game in but St Thomas was able to get 1 by her. The girls won this game 5-1 with Emma F getting her second hat trick of the day.

Our third game of the tournament was on Saturday against the London Devillettes. The team started a little slow compared to the previous day but did pick up the pace durning the game. London scored a goal in each of the first and second periods to give them the 2 goal lead going into the third. Our girls had some good scoring chances during all three periods and a shot from Maggie P (8) got us with in 1 in the third but were not able to get another pass their goal tender. Makayla B played another good game and kept London off the score sheet in the third. Final score was 2-1 for London.
Maggie P (8) was named player of the game.
After our 3 game round robin that put us in 2nd place in our pool of 4 teams giving us a chance to play in the Semi Finals on Sunday.
Semi Final game was against our rival St Clair. The team started a little slow and St Clair was able to get a goal in the first period to give them the advantage. During the second period our girls had some good scoring chances but solid goal tending from St Clair and them scoring a goal gave them the 2 goal lead going into the third. Again we had good scoring chances but again were not able to get them in the back of the net. Makayla B did not allow anything in the back of our net in the final period. St Clair took the game 2-0.
Overall the girls played a great weekend of hockey.
The team is now looking forward to starting our round robin playoffs against St Clair, Zorra and B.A.D (Belmont/Aylmer/Dorchester).
