WOAA Cruikshank Champs
In between games 2 and 3 of the OMHA our Meteors had the chance to sneak in game one of a best 2 of 3 series to see who would take home the League's WOAA Cruikshank Championship trophy.  The rest would have to wait until after our series with Schomberg was won.

Game one was a tight affair with plenty of action from end to end and both netminders played a fantastic game with many big saves made to keep their teams in this one.  Duncan even had to defend off an early penalty shot that was awarded early in the 1st.  The opening period would end scoreless but MacLean would burst the bubble and put one up on the board for the visitors with Schoonderwoerd and Eidt getting the assists early in the 2nd.  The rest of the game was scrambled with many broken plays but the goaltending was solid as they continued to make outstanding plays, finding the loose pucks in their crease and grabbing pucks out of nowhere.  Penalty trouble was seen by both teams but neither offensive powerplay would capitalize on the opportunities throughout the game.  Murray would put he game on ice it late in the third with an empty netter - assists going to Weir & MacArthur for a 2-0 win.  Duncan had one of his best games of the year and was forced to work his but off for his shutout.

Game two took place back in Mitchell after a week off, and the home ice schedule had been extended by a day to accommodate yet another playoff game in the Meteor's home rink this year.  Mitchell came out flying and MacLean's tenacity was present yet again as he fought for the puck all the way in and the puck sneaked in past the Star's keeper for an early lead.  Seaforth had brought some pressure early in the game but Mitchell settled down and once again there were great scoring chances turned aside by both keepers who stood their ground.  Multiple scoring opportunites were generated with some bullets from the point being turned aside, but it was Vogels who smacked down a shot to the net and buried it for what would eventually be the game winner.  Maclean would add another one to the tally and then MacArthur and Murray would set up Eidt for a beautiful one-timer and a four goal lead.  Despite Duncan's best efforts to keep the net rubber free a scramble in front of the net resulted in his shutout bid being broken.  As time wound down it would be MacArthur who would find the empty netter and cap off a 5-1 win and the Cruikshank trophy presentation.

Congratulations to our boys and our great coaches on a fantastic season!
