Atom AE Boys End Season On A High Note!
The boys traveled to Goderich tonight to take on the Sailors in a must win situation for the WOAA Lockridge finals.  The boys came to play and put up a huge fight right until the bitter end but lost in an exciting overtime.

Mitchell came out hard and had some great scoring chances early in the period.  After some great saves by the Meteor's goalie, Greg Reidy, Goderich finally got one by him with just 3 minutes left in the period.  The boys ended the first trailing by 1.  Early in the second period, Kyle Eisler rushed down the ice with team mate, Joey Adam in front of the net.  Eisler made the decision not to pass and instead, slid a low shot under the pads, which caught the goaltender and defense off guard and tied the game 1-1.  Adam and Evan MacArthur earned the assists.  Eight minutes of hard playing and great saves by Reidy, paid off when Josh Eidt scored Mitchell's second goal of the game and gave them the lead for the first time in the series.  MacArthur notched his second assist.  The boys were heading into the third period up 2-1.  The period was end to end and after many trips, slashes and checks on Mitchell, it was the Meteors who ended up in the box leaving them shorthanded early in the third.  Goderich's power play was too much for the boys and they were able to tie it up at 2.  Just three minutes later, our very own acrobatic goaltender, Greg Reidy, just couldn't get the rebounds and the Sailors took the lead 3-2.  The Meteors never gave up and with just three minutes left in the game, Brett 'dangler' Poirier, notched Mitchell's tying goal while Curtis Chaffe and Darren Feltz earned the assists.  The boys were heading into a ten minute sudden death overtime!  It was a very exciting period with many great chances on both sides.  Reidy stayed strong in net and the forwards did a great job of helping out deep in our end when needed.  Mitchell took some great shots on the Sailor's net but just couldn't get much room to move against the aggressive Goderich team.  With just five minutes remaining in OT, Goderich got one by Reidy to win the series.   This was such a great game to watch.  Boys you did an amazing job and we are all very proud of you.  Mitchell dominated the AE division, never losing a game in the regular season, which prompted the league to move them into the Rep division for play-offs.  Even though the Meteors were placed in this tough division, they finished the round robin series undefeated which is incredible!  Very proud of you boys!  Charlie Wood and Greg Reidy, you had the toughest job on the team playing net.  When a goalie has a great game, they are a super star and when they don't, well...it gets noticed.  It can be a lonely job but you boys did it well and each took turns being the super stars for the team.  Thank you!  Matthew Crawford, Denzyl Finlayson and Curtis Chaffe, you did a great job on defence the entire year to help this team be so successful!  Much like a goalie, a defence's mistakes are always noticed but so are the amazing plays, which you had a lot of.  Your dedication was much appreciated, thank you!!  Kurtis DeJong, Evan MacArthur and Tanner Meinen, the three of you had several different rolls throughout the year on the team switching from defence to forward and sometimes back to defence.  Your willingness to switch on a moments notice, must have been an asset to a coaching staff trying to mix things up and find combinations that worked for the team.  No matter which position you were in, you did a fantastic job and were a huge part of such a great season for Mitchell.  Great job guys!  Drew Scherbarth, Kyle Eisler and Joey Adam, you guys gelled right from the beginning.  The chemistry you guys had was impressive to witness.  You made scoring and making great plays look easy and were a definite asset to the team.  Great season boys!  Josh Eidt, Darren Feltz, Sam Snyders and Brett Poirier, although you guys played with different people, you all have a common thread.  The four of you were always in there, fighting for the puck in the corners, skating hard to force the other team to make a play and popping in some beautiful goals in the process. You boys ere a lot of fun to watch and made the game exciting.  Way to go boys!  Will Steinbach and Coulter Rolph, whenever the coaches asked you to come out and be an extra set of skates for our team, you were right there to help.  This means a lot to everyone on the team and we thank you for doing this for us!  Each of you made one of the best group of boys and best hockey team I have had the pleasure to watch.  The coaching staff, Jack Chaffe, Shawn Snyders, Warren Scherbarth and Jamy Poirier, you guys dedicated a great deal of your time, effort, and nerves to coach these boys.  You took a great group of boys and made them a dominating force on the ice!  Your ability to know each kid and play to their strengths and weaknesses is a gift and I know that this is what propelled the boys and helped them to improve leaps and bounds throughout the year and become such a successful team.  Well done coaches, well done! Thank you for an exciting, highly successful season!  You should all be so proud of yourselves!  Enjoy the party tomorrow night and enjoy the year end sleep away tournament April 4-6th.  You deserve it boys!!  Way to go Meteors!
