Atom AE Boys Provincial Finalists!!
The Thompsons Atom AE team traveled to Parkhill tonight to play game #3 of the Provincial Finals against the North Middlesex Jr Stars.  Although the boys suffered their third straight loss, they played an exciting final 3 minutes and almost tied up the game.

The boys seem to struggle, once again, in the first few period and let the Stars get a huge lead.  Greg Reidy started in net for Mitchell but was pulled after the third goal, early in the second period, in an attempt to shake the boys up and get something started.  North Middlesex scored two more quick goals on Charlie Wood and the boys entered the third period down 5-0.  It looked as though the boys were just going to roll over but an early third period goal by Evan MacArthur, gave them hope and a whole period to even the score.  Joey Adam assisted on the goal.  The boys kept digging in the corner and blocking shots in front of their net and finally the fans could see that the tide might be turning.  With three minutes left in the game, Tanner Meinen scored an unassisted goal to bring the score to 5-2.  Just one minute later, Mitchell got their third goal of the game on a great shot by Josh Eidt, assisted by Meinen and Kurtis DeJong.  The Meteors still had two minutes to get two goals!  After a time out at 1:49, The coach pulled the goalie and put out 6 skater to try and even the score and give the boys another shot at the Stars.  The move paid off and Kyle Eisler scored Mitchell's fourth goal of the game while Meinen and Eidt assisted.  The boys went from a five goal deficit to being within one goal in a matter of minutes and the fans were on the edge of their seats!  With 44 seconds left in the game, the boys were deep in the Stars end and scrambling to get the puck in the net.  Many great chances including one in the last second, just couldn't produce the final goal needed and Mitchell would have to accept second place in a hard fought third period.  The boys shouldn't be ashamed of this final series.  They had one heck of a season and have so much to be proud of.  They have another shot at a title starting tomorrow night when they battle the Goderich Sailors in Mitchell at 8pm for the league finals.  Let's go boys!!  Go Meteors Go!!
